What makes Woolmarket House unique?
Woolmarket House encourages exploration with an eclectic mix of up-cycled, re-purposed, antique, and contemporary furniture. The house is a home to our contemporary art collection, and antique market finds from Paris, New York, Brussels and Stockholm. There are display cases from the Ashmolean Museum Oxford, alongside hand-woven rugs from Jaipur, India and sleek school chairs from a flea-market in Amsterdam. Our guests may also enjoy the usual facilities that most good B&Bs provide: free WiFi that runs at a decent speed, access to subscription TV, a selection of drinks, bottled water as well as tap, coffee and tea, a selection of herbal teas, and seating areas with shelves lined with books, for use by our guests during their stay.
Sleep in comfort
The beds at Woolmarket House are comfortable, one is king-size with a hand-built mattress which is generally firm, and made by Shoreditch’s Litvinoff & Fawcett, the other softer and a standard double, made by a trusted high-street brand. They are made-up using a mixture of Egyptian cotton with a higher thread count, and hand-made, antique indian covers, with goose-down duvets, or a reliable, lightweight artificial fibre for those with allergies.
Stylish surroundings
Woolmarket House’s interior is a blend of old and new design, compiled with care and attention to detail. Proven 18th and 19th-century English classic furniture is interspersed with contemporary pieces from Scandinavia, Italy, Spain, France, Germany, India, South Africa and Japan, in a remarkable building that has been a merchants house, accommodation for the clergy, a hotel and a pub, originally dating from the middle of the 15th-century.
Breakfast
Our breakfast menu features high-quality, locally-grown seasonal produce and includes expected options like a good quality granola/muesli, Greek yogurt, fresh fruit, artisan bread, croissants, a proper English breakfast, and smoked salmon with scrambled eggs. We can also accommodate gluten-free, vegetarian, and vegan diets, but it is always a good idea to let us know your dietary requirements in advance of your arrival. For instance we do not carry vegan substitutes throughout the year as we try to provide fresh food for our guests. Some guest favorites on the menu are entirely plant-based.
Stay - free of fuss
Toiletries are French and lightly scented. We provide a hair dryer, decent cotton robes and towels in each of thee bathrooms. We do not provide complimentary shampoo, cosmetics, bath bombs, biscuits or pillow-side chocolates. We have found that guests prefer to bring their own shampoo, cosmetics, or indeed, biscuits. There is bubble bath in the bathrooms for those who want a good soak. Both bathrooms are en-suit and have tubs, only one has a walk in shower. Both have hand-held shower fittings. We also provide helpful printed guides on the best places to eat, drink, and explore nearby cultural and places of interest.
Journeys around the world
There is plenty of storage in both classic furniture and modern items from independent dealers in Europe and America. We have items from designers like Conran, B&B Italia, and Ikea. With painted plan chests, curved wood cabinets, alongside ex-ferry chairs from New York and other unique pieces, you will find space for all your outfits for any event, from weddings to beach days, concerts, and coastal walks.

Our extensive bookcases are filled with a wide variety of books covering many different topics and genres. You are welcome to borrow as many books as you desire, at any time that is convenient for you. If you wish to catch up on the latest news, you can easily turn on the television in your room or choose from a range of programming options on your iPad, taking advantage of our complimentary WiFi - accessible throughout the house.
